About Us

BRIEF is a countywide coalition that brings together families, schools, community members, organizations, and service providers to strengthen Essex County’s System of Care through prevention, education, connection, and collaboration.

BRIEF serves as a backbone and connector for the Essex County System of Care. We bring people to the table, connect resources and partners, identify gaps, support collaboration, and help our communities work together to address the needs of children, youth, adults, and families.

System of Care GOALS

Our Purpose

The BRIEF Coalition brings together the stakeholders and partners who collectively support Essex County’s System of Care (SOC).

A System of Care is a coordinated network of services, supports, and community resources designed to address the physical, mental, social, emotional, educational, and developmental needs of individuals and families.

BRIEF strengthens this system through cross-system collaboration, community engagement, active problem-solving, and shared responsibility. Our work is centered on identifying community needs, connecting existing resources, addressing gaps, and supporting a comprehensive continuum of services and supports.

Our approach is grounded in trauma-informed care, lived experience, community-based practices, accountability, and cultural and linguistic competence.

BRIEF is about bringing the right people to the table.

No single organization, agency, school, or community can meet every need alone. By working together, sharing knowledge, connecting resources, and building on the strengths already present in Essex County, we can create communities where individuals and families have the support they need to thrive.

Building Resilience in Essex County.
