Programs and Services

Aging & Nutrition Services:

Nutrition Program for the Elderly: Provides nutritious meals, social activities, and information and referral for seniors 60 and over at 14 sites throughout the county. Provides home delivered meals and a daily contact for homebound elderly.

Nutrition: Provides food service for local community hospital.

Community Services 

Emergency Needs:

Assists Families in crisis/emergency situations to access services to meet their needs. Provides emergency food, utilities and homeless assistance when other funding is not available. 

Community Action Angels: 

Volunteer based program that support our community in its efforts to help others. 

Back Pack Program: 

Provides Meals for at risk Elementary School children over the weekends. 

Holidays Are For Sharing: 

Annual holiday gift giving program for children. ACAP is a United way of the Adirondack Region agency.

Weatherization and Energy Services

Weatherization Assistance Program:

Weatherization Assistance Program conducts testing and provides measures to improve energy efficiency in producing fuel savings in homes and to ensure health and safety of families.

Child Care 

After-School: 

Offers positive activities and healthy social interaction for children in Moriah, Westport, Willsboro, and Schroon Lake schools. 

Child Care:  

Professional training and technical assistance in becoming a childcare provider. Reimbursement for the cost of meals and snacks provided to children in care. Resource and referral for parents seeking safe, healthy childcare. 

Supervised Visitation:

The program is open to all Essex County residents that have court ordered visitation. We provide a safe nurturing home setting for non-custodial parents to have positive interactions with their children. The families also have the opportunity to complete the Nurturing Parenting Program and ACES training.

Parenting Education

The certified program works on evidence-based practices assisting with communication, expectations, discipline, ACES, safe sleeping, stress management, charting, co-parenting and 123 Magic. We are able to adapt the program to meet the families needs such as offering, Surviving Your Adolescents, Caring For a Newborn, and Grandparents raising their grandchildren. 

Nurturing Parenting

The program is a certified evidence-based program to nourish self-worth, develop personal empowerment, cooperation, identify appropriate expectations, develop compassion , and improve parent/child bonding.

Employment and Training

OneWorkSource Business and Employment Center:

ACAP is the host partner of the One Stop in Essex County which provides an accessible and seamless system to address the employment and training needs of job seekers, workers, and businesses. Partnering agencies include: Dept. of Labor (DOL), Champlain Valley Educational Services (CV-Tec), North Country Community College (NCCC), and Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (ACCES-VR)

Head Start/Early Head Start

Head Start: 

Childhood development program focusing on the social, health, nutritional, educational, and emotional needs of children. Children and their families participate in center and home based activities that promote their growth and well-being.

Early Head Start: 

Enhances children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development; assists pregnant women with access to prenatal and postpartum care; support parent’s efforts in fulfilling their parental roles; and assists parents and moving toward self-sufficiency. Focuses on pregnant women and families with children 0 through 3 years of age.
